Call for Applications for Board of Directors
The Friends of University Hospitals seek volunteer board members who represent diverse perspectives in Edmonton and who demonstrate excellence in their field of expertise, bringing to our non-profit a mix of leadership skills, care and vision critical to due diligence and good governance. Our organization is entering an exciting phase of growth with a new vision highlighting our work in The Arts, and a strategic plan developed by new leadership.
Established in 1986 and evolved from compassionate care programs dating back to the opening of the hospital in 1906, our mission is to use The Arts and Social Enterprise to enhance wellness in the University of Alberta Hospital community, inspiring wholeness and creating meaningful connections. We operate McMullen Gallery, The Artists on the Wards Program, and maintain the public art collection in the hospital. We administrate the Nancy Lieberman Special Purposes Fund, and fund-raise primarily using a retail model including two shops and various pop ups throughout the site.
Emphasis will be on the recruitment of candidates who have the time, interest in arts and/or health non-profits, and experience to make a significant impact on the long-term performance of The Friends. Special consideration will be given to those with the following experience:
Fundraising and Sponsorship
Working with vulnerable populations
Friends’ board members take on a two-year term, with the possibility for renewal for additional terms. The board meets 9 times per year (off for July and August) and produces our Annual General Meeting each June. Time commitment will be approximately 6 hours per month, as each Director is also required to hold a seat on, at minimum, one board sub-committee.
Deadline for Submissions is May 3, 2019, 11:59PM MST.
Only those applicants chosen for interview will be contacted.
