What elements of artwork in health care settings are most effective in enhancing patients’ well-being? What art can benefit health care workers by contributing positively to the hospital environment? These are some of the questions that This Art Makes Me Feel…  seeks to explore.

Great care is made in selecting and placing art works in the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH). These decisions are aided by research that has identified positive impacts (mood, stress, heart rate) of art in hospitals and the types of art that benefit the well-being of patients, families, and staff.  However, the research is limited. The aim of This Art Makes Me Feel…  is to highlight the considered process that goes into identifying art work in the U of A Hospital, and to gather your input on what art has an impact on you, and why.

We have selected art works from the Collection of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts that are diverse in their content, style, colour, and impact on the viewer. We hope that you will find one or more pieces that impacts you, and we hope you will share these responses with us.

This Art Makes Me Feel…  is a collaboration with the Alberta Foundation for the Arts—a partner of McMullen Gallery’s since its inception 30 years ago.
